Apply for the Leathersellers’ Company Apprenticeship Grant of up to £30,000



The Leathersellers’ Company Charitable Fund is offering funding for up to three years to support the training and education of aspiring leatherworkers. This could help your business sustain the vital skills within the field of leather crafts.

Who can apply? 

  • The organisation/ master that will be training the apprentice should apply. This can be for an existing apprenticeship scheme within the organisation or a new apprentice programme.
You must meet the following criteria:
  • A UK-based sole-trader or micro-business (turning over less than £632,000, has £316,000 or less on its balance sheet, and has less than 10 employees)
  • The apprenticeship will benefit both the apprentice and the organisation
  • There must be a genuine financial need from the employer who cannot access alternative funding
  • The apprentice must be 18 years or over and working permanently in the UK
  • The apprentice must be paid at least minimum wage (dependent on age)

What is funded?

The Leather Saddler’s Company are offering grants between £5,000 - £10,000 per annum, for a maximum of a three-year apprenticeship. This should contribute towards the cost of training the apprentice (where possible working towards a recognised qualification) or the apprentice’s salary.
Supporting British leatherworking is the Leathesellers' Company’s goal so they are looking for apprentices that are planning to utilise their skills in the UK leather industry.

The application process 

To apply you must complete the online form, which includes the following sections:

About your organisation:
Detail what your organisation does and the role leather working plays
Upload three images/references that showcase your leather work

Apprenticeship summary:
Detail the overall purpose of the apprenticeship, what skills the apprentice will learn and how this will benefit your organisation
Outline your training goals and how the apprentice’s progress will be assessed and recorded
Should you be successful in receiving the funding, you will be required to report to the Leathersellers annually against the goals stated in the application.

Financial Details:
You must provide a simple budget for the apprenticeship in table form and a pdf copy of the company’s most recent accounts.

Deadline to apply 

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 27th May 2022 and a decision will be provided by Friday 24th June at the latest.
