ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
Abbey England Ltd is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its operations and continually improving its environmental performance. We recognise our responsibility to use resources efficiently, source materials responsibly and support sustainable manufacturing practices throughout our business and supply chain.
To achieve this we will:
Comply with all relevant environmental legislation and regularly review our environmental objectives to drive continual improvement.
Reduce waste by promoting reuse, recycling and the efficient use of materials. Since 2019, our cardboard shredding system has enabled damaged cartons to be repurposed as protective packaging, significantly reducing our use of plastic bubble wrap.
Improve resource efficiency through the use of recycled office paper and FSC-certified packaging, ensuring paper and timber products originate from responsibly managed forests, recycled materials or controlled sources.
Improve energy efficiency by considering environmental performance when investing in equipment and encouraging responsible energy use across the business.
Minimise pollution through responsible waste management, reducing unnecessary packaging and maintaining high standards of housekeeping.
Conserve water by encouraging efficient use and monitoring consumption where appropriate.
Consider environmental impacts, including resource use, waste generation, transport and packaging, when introducing new products, processes or operational changes.
Support biodiversity through responsible sourcing and by ensuring all leather supplied is a by-product of the meat industry. No leather, treatments or additives are sourced from CITES-listed animal or plant species.
Reduce emissions associated with business travel through efficient journey planning and the use of virtual meetings where appropriate.
Responsible procurement forms an essential part of our environmental commitment. We work closely with suppliers to understand and manage environmental impacts throughout our supply chain, prioritising UK manufacturers and suppliers wherever practical to reduce transport impacts and support British industry. Our own brass foundry incorporates recycled brass into production, and 100% of the rubber used in our Equus rein grips is manufactured in the UK.
Sustainability is central to the products we supply. Much of our business supports the repair and restoration of leather goods, saddlery and equestrian equipment, helping customers extend product life and reduce unnecessary waste. We further promote these principles by providing expert online guidance on leatherworking materials and repair techniques.
We are also proud to support the Leathersellers' Surplus Leather Project, distributing over 200 donated leather hides each year to universities and colleges across the UK. Now entering our fourth year of participation (2026–2027), this initiative diverts valuable leather from landfill while supporting education, craftsmanship and the next generation of makers.
Through responsible sourcing, sustainable manufacturing, employee engagement and continuous improvement, Abbey England Ltd remains committed to reducing its environmental impact while supporting the long-term sustainability of the industries we serve.
