TUBULAR RIVETS

Tubular rivets are a two part fastener used for joining multiple layers of material. They can be completely hidden or aesthetically enhance your leatherwork. With a sturdy design, tubular rivets are commonly used in high stress areas such as handles and pockets.

We have two different types of tubular rivets - open and closed stem. Choose our open stem rivets for less visible places. Our sizes range from 6mm up 15mm in head diameter and from 7mm up to 18mm in stem length.

HOW TO SET TUBULAR RIVETS

  • Punch your leather to fit the size of your tubular post before beginning.
  • Place the stem on the base/anvil and place the material over the top.
  • Make sure you are using the right size stem for the material you are using - the post should not extend past the surface of your leather by more than 3mm. If the tubular rivet extends too far above the leather it will cause the rivet to bend and set crooked.
  • Then place the rivet cap over the material followed by the setting tube
  • Tap the end of the tool with a mallet – a wooden or rawhide mallet ensures you do not damage your setting tool over time when used repeatedly.
  • Tip: To avoid any slipping always keep pressure down onto your rivet and use a stable surface.
Our Rivet Cast Handtool  will fit all rivets up to those with a 12mm head. For smaller rivets of sizes up to 8mm we recommend using our Economy Tubular Rivet Handtool.
